Michael J. O’Connell

Michael J. O’Connell prosecutes patent applications and counsels clients in intellectual property matters with an emphasis in patent law. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications across a broad range of physical science and technology including optics, physics, material science, microscopy, medical imaging, semiconductors, nanotechnology, display technology, computer science, and electrical engineering. His counseling practice includes advising clients on patent portfolio development and preparing infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions.


Prior to joining Innovation Counsel LLP, Mr. O’Connell had his own law firm and earlier worked as a patent attorney at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Before law school he practiced as an engineer in the defense, aerospace, and semiconductor industries.
